Most likely the PS3 will get a price cut very soon. It is the common sense thing to do if you are Sony. So the question really shouldn't be when? Rather it should be, will the price cut even matter?
![]() For three years now the PS3 has been unable to sustain any momentum that it has gathered from time to time. While there are many contributing factors for Sony's tough outing this generation, the one main factor everyone agrees on is price. So here we are amidst rumors that a PS3 price drop is imminent. The buzz has been there for a while, but now the slight hum is a pounding noise. Game developers have started to speak out publicly for a PS3 price cut. Sony has been firm and unflinching in denying all rumors. Most likely the PS3 will get a price cut very soon. It is the common sense thing to do if you are Sony. So the question really shouldn't be when? Rather it should be, will the price cut even matter? Price cut or not the PS3 would still be the highest priced of the 3 consoles. And to the parents of eager kids everywhere, the lower price Wii and 360 are a more appropriate choice given the economic conditions that every family is starting to face. Sure the PS3's cheapest model is a better value than the Xbox 360's basic model. But to most consumers this is unknown. We gamers at times tend to forget that not all consumers know the latest gaming news. The average consumer just doesn't understand the value argument. Finally the PS3's target demographic is an older audience. Which is shrinking year by year. The target demographic for the Wii and 360 is younger and continues to grow larger each year. It may be to late for Sony to catch up in the console war. However, by no means should anyone say they are finished. Sony will keep supporting the PS3 for years to come. The price will keep falling. There will be sales increase's as the price goes lower and lower over the years. The other two systems though are so far ahead of the PS3 in terms of pricing that I question if Sony's price cut will work, or if it is already too late. |

sony hs to much money. They should hav dropped the price long ago and tried promotional aspects like.. not ripping there customers off with non Shock controllers. Probably shouldn't have lied about those either. Also shouldn't have lied about release dates.. or the fact that now that blizzard has taken the rights to diablo, hell, evil and the devil you're kind of gonna need to find a new catch phrase.

Xbox 360 have kinda taken a hit for their RROD's and some sorta new bug that costs another 100$ for god knows what reason to fix. (k-47 or some shit?)
+ their online costs money. Thou I in no way disagree that average consumers might not give a damn about those details or even know about them.. And wii... It's just a wii little gaming system... with lots of generic plain or low end games. |

wii has a larger user base. Therefore it sells more. I don't understand your problem with paying for the x-Box live service. It's universally accepted the xbox live service is a more enjoyable expereince for on-line despite teh fact it costs a measy 90 odd a year (Australian so whats that 40 USD ?).
Yes x-Box suffered a hit for it's red rings failure but somehow I don't see that as a big killer. Working in the computer industry I see failure rates regularly. RROD was bad, so bad Microsoft has had too press release and kiss arse bad to cover the issue however the sales figures are still there. Playstation loses out in two area's for me. 1. It's got no titles. Now before I get swamped in a sea of flame, acid and poor spelling lets just say that there are no game son the ps3. It's pretty easy to see when you shop. FFS there are more nintendo DS isles then there are ps3 isles in my local supermarket. Actualy ps3 dosn't get an isle. 2. It's not that god damned good. It could eb. I could fly a space ship to marsa with that piece of hardware. Unfortunately sony saw firt to lock all that goodness away. Either that or the base processing pwer fo the cell is heavily over rated. Price is an issue but I really do want a blue ray and that makes upf or the price imho. It jut dosn't have anything else. Resistance maybe, MGS 4 sure; but thats it. Where is the sony awesome. I wanted 6 axis dual shock controllers, I wanted photorealistic boxing. I wanted to see a game that made Halo fanboy's cream there pants in envy. All I see is a monolith of epic proportians that fails miserably to live up to it's own standards. Please Sony, do something. Honestly I miss haveing you around my house. Also note, reports indicate that although wii has market share this year. It has been estimated that the console with the highest actuial play time is still held by the playstation 2. |

I played Force unleashed for the Wii... then played the demo of Force unleashed for PS3... Might have cut the story but sure as hell upped the gameplay and graphics. Wii has turned into a workout for kids.
Sure not a lot of games but holy shit I rather play PS3 then Wii... (and my cousins got 360 so why not just have the PS3 and look cool in the family?) and I'm not into system repairs and paying to play my shit anyway... I have a sense that PS3 might be like when I got my xbox... I ended up playing PS2 more anyway... so I got a sense I might end up playing PS3 a lot more in the end anyway >.>.. and I do most the time. |

I've played the PS3 and 360 versions of Force unleashed...
Theres only one differance I could tell about the two consoles. Xbox whas laready had content made available. The PS3 is flailing madly in marketing terms, means less game, less attention witch leads to further spiralling sales. Meaning the cycle starts anew. PS3 is going to be a dead console unless sony can figure something out fast. Of course Sony has hte money to sink into dead product in the hopes it will save blue ray before the new DVD systems hit. 1TB DVD's anyone ? |
