The general consensus between the two main competing consoles, the Xbox 360 and the PS3 is that, the Xbox 360 has sold more consoles and is in the "lead", is this really the case? factually speaking it is, but who is really selling more consoles, and how strong is each sale for each company? The first thing, many people choose to ignore or forget to mention is the fact that Microsoft's Xbox 360 has been out for at least a year longer in all territories, obviously a lead in sales is expected, when it's the only HD "Next-Gen"console on the market, right? Secondly, looking at the prices of these two consoles as another factor, one cannot help but say the PS3 is performing far stronger than most think, launching at $600 a piece, at least $200 more expensive than the Xbox 360 launch price, it is clearly quite a feat to still be in the title race. With all factors combined, the year head start and cheaper console, the Microsoft Xbox 360 can be seen to be under performing and in contrary the Sony PS3, thriving, strange views for most I'm sure, but if you do the math, a more expensive console + a year late to the market, going on to sell over 21 million units is remarkable, and in comparison, the 8 million or so lead by the Xbox 360 seems pretty small. Again I stress that you put all factors together, the price, the launch time and the economy into question, by doing so you'll notice that the PS3 isn't in as much of a bad position as some people might like to think. And as of recently is seeing a huge increase in sales across Japan and other EU territories. |

OK... Im not sure what school you went to but by throwing in 'random' denominators you can completely break any mathematical statement. Instead of playing 't-shirts are the leading cuase of death' lets look at the facts the way they should be looked at. In a factual statement.
X-box sells more than Sony per year, has done, is doing, and likely will do for at least another 12 months. Adding in thing's like price comparison and release dates is doing nothing but confusing a very simple issue. Price comparison is one of the many reasons Xbox is selling better, and yes the early release date makes a huge differance (More than a lot of people take into account) but they are just factors within the scope of the console. Just like PS3 has increased processing power (If only it could be utilized) and blue ray while the 360 dosn't look lik eit was in a Spielburg movie. If we want to say that Sony's are doing better than Xbox becuase we need to facter in the late release and the over price, then we need to calculate some kind of nominated value on a per sales influenced. Inclusive of graphical performance, standard noise of system, utility, asthetics... Oh wait. i guess the ultimate sales figures are the best way to see what results are shown from all the thrown in figures. To be able to create that denominator we must have the simple statement that 'all things being equel all consoles will sell an equel amount under constant conditions.' After this statement is made it kind of defeats the purpose of looking at the equation anymore since we have started with a false statement and are trying to make enough complicated additions ot the equation to make it match the percieved fact that sony sales don't match up; or do match up, its ytour percieved reality. Eg. Sony Sales = X Xbox Sales = Y n=nominated value of influence t=time e/200=value of console over basevalue of cheapest console Z = Wii ( in AUS money) Factual Statement Z > Y > X Complicating the issues. (Y+(n^t))x.66') = X The PS3 is not selling better than the X-Box, there are many reasons for this, and we could argue a few but it's an acedemic argument that will solve/prove nothing. The facts are in and of themselves conclusive. However, if we really want to make this argument rediculously complicated... The Wii has always, is currently and likely will continue for at least 36 months outsold/outselling all other consoles on themarket. Then again it's cheaper, smaller, appeals to a wider Audience, inclusive of hardcore gamers, casual gamers, and people who wonder if they should rewind dvd's. I guess really the Wii is a dramatic and complete failure on behalf of Nintendo... To add further confusion to the arguement in this day and age it's fair to say Consoles are nothing but simpified PC's and we really need to add PC's into the discussion to create a level playing field. Why is it that commen sense seems to be so uncommon. Last edited by ghost; 04-12-2009 at 10:07 AM. Just a quick note. If I do a tally of all the 360's Ive come across in my gaming circle and all the ps3's we can start a running tally and see what we get. So Since in my household htere have been 3, lach has 2, then there is jason with 1 and 1 still thinking that guy has 1 and then 1 and he has a ps3 and that other dde has 1 and he has a ps3. Just off the top of my head.
I own more Xbox's than all my friends put together own ps3's but still for comparison sake. 10 Xbox's and 2 Ps3's. To be fair there are at least 8 Wii consoles amongst those people and about 7 Wii's spread out amongst my Inlaws. SO Wii still thrashes both M$ and Sony. Still lets see how the new sony slim goes in a flooded market. |

Their sales indeed are going up, but when Microsoft released the 100 dollar cut on their consoles (Xbox Elite) I doubt there will be any catching now. We will have to wait and see until the next generation of console will be released.

Even Nintendo is in a slump now. First recorded decrease (Not loss) in sales since they released the wii. Im starting the think the market is tapped. In that regard we should start seeing "news" of the next console series hitting the streets seriously now.
Although it seems to be about 'gimmicks' and 'gadgets' now. Perhaps the companies have realised cosoels cost a lot to research, develop, produce and arket. And gimmicks are cheap, nasty and effectively repeatable. |
