naming Characters in an MMORPG? [ Z's Community building copy/paste]

What's your take on naming Characters in an MMORPG?



Do you want all names to be made up fantasy/Sci Fi names, like Toncha Kantesh?

Is it ok if people use common names, like Joe or Steven?

Does it bother you if people use leet speak names, like Haxxorzpwnsjoo?

What about celebrity names, like naming your toon Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie?

How about naming your character things like Sonic, Lightning, or Tiger, actual words basically?

Is there anyone that wouldn't care if people use stupid or offensive names, like Smellmyfart, or Smokemoarcrack?

Well, in my mmo games i played i always used a single name and it was LittleYonZ. Its a name which includes my name with little in front on it.

Now i don't like how it sounds so now im going with CycloneZ.
I pick this since its looks cool ( for me cool is a short name and letters flow in a way..) and when its read it sounds cool (for me xD and hoping it does to you all).

I really don't like characters name that are long, it looks bad.
For names like Bob and Joe, i don't mind but i think the person should come up with a unique/better name.

cin is usually too short, so i take the name i shortened, cinisi.

usually not taken. and i prefer to stick to one char all the way,
others may be named cinny, cincin, etc.

Naming my character is one of the steps that takes most of the time, I want a name that fits the setting, and that sounds original, I take hours just thinking of a name.

And then I get angry that people just name their character naruto13x0, or xXxtrunksxXx, or things like that, I find celebrity names to be funny if the character resembles the celebrity.

And if it is the name of a ship or a vehicle, normal words such as Lightning or Thunderbolt are fine.

Back in UO. There were two Player Killers one named Willie Nelson, and the other Johnny Cash The avatars reflected the man in black and the redheaded stranger... they where my favorite PKs for sure.

Usually is kask for me. And naMeS WiTh raNdOm capitaL LetTers ArE anNoying in an mmorpg imo.

I used to use anime inspired names cause I am a dork. Then I wanted a sense of identity instead of changing name for every game I play since I try out many many MMOs. So I use my original s/n Failoan.

Since then every game I have played in I have used Failoan, or something that starts with Fai. So if you guys ever see Failoan, you can be pretty sure that will be me. Doubt any one will steal such a name, it's looks like a random jumble of letters. lol

I wrote a rather long text during late teen's. I use charecter names from my own universe. Unfortunately over the last 8 years they have become commonly used online names. Seriously WTF, stop stealing my charecter names noobs. I don't care if you thought them up before me, indipendantly or not Mine I tell you. Mine.

Explain yourself, I mean, about your universe. Cause, I guess I also have my own universe (if we are talking about the same thing then our conversation will be awesome) :P

Of course no character name stealing, and that's one of the reasons I just don't wanna go original on names.

I sometimes take screenshots if I see a character with a name I like, or a name I think sounds good, but I do not steal them, I just like to see thm in case that the player never comes back XD
