Default 2x2GB or 4x1GB RAM?

I'm just wondering what the effect of dividing RAM is. Does it add decision overhead making it access slower, does the smaller address space make finding it faster, or does multiple sticks allow concurrent access making it faster?

It'The answer is Dual Channel memory, and since everything is dual channel capable that means 2 x 2gb is superior to 1 x 4gb.

a good description

"Think of it as a road intersection. The memory controller is the traffic light. In one direction you have a nice four lane road going through the light. One way goes to the CPU and the other goes around the board to where it is needed, such as the video card. There is another way to go, and that is to the memory. In single channel, this isn’t pretty. It’s a one lane street which needs to send information both directions. With dual channel it is a little bit easier. It could now be a two lane road, to send and receive at the same time." I dont reme, ber wherre i found that analogy but it works.

How much RAM can your mobo hold, as I would get the maximum amout if I were you?

For example, my mobo's maximum amount is 24GB...and yes I do plan on buying that eventually.

I moved to 8 recently and I don't see a big improvement over 4, Maybe a little in photoshop but not much elsewhere. I did consider getting 16 and useing 6 as a RAM disk for the operating system boot but getting Vista or Win7 to boot from a 6gb ramdisk seemed unlikely.

My question was directed at punchbunny, anyeverhow.... Are you using an x64 version of Windows, because if you're not then that 8 is going to waste?!
