I am very angry at the developers for preying upon the hopeful using what joyful memories we have of UO and what we hate about WoW to lift our spirits for so many years on this garbage they are peddling. This is not a professional company in my openion, preorder for this crap? Really?
Trados made an announcement today with another “launch date” skipping an open beta and charging users money to play. Seriously? haha I gave up interest on Darkfall in 2005 , but I still hear and see my friends eyes light up like an Asian girl in a hello kitty shop. They made an announcement today about a launch date. (the 8th or so date? ) And they are doing pre-orders, which smells of mourning/realms of krel type of shenanigans if anyone remembers that problem. I think it's hilarious that the price for an electronic download with no box at all is $50+ USD. I feel sorry for those uber fanboys that have been following darkfall and defending it even after deep down in their hearts they know the game won’t make it very long. I would be surprised to see more than 600 people online a year after launch if they can even afford to keep the servers up that long.
As a note: I think the darkfall community is great. I feel sorry for them that their bonds are wasted on such a crappy game. I hope that they can all find a real game worthy of their admiration. Last edited by punchbunny; 02-18-2009 at 06:28 PM. |

Darkfall online is a game that boast many features that hardcore PVPers have been clambering for... full item loot, FFA environment, a reputation system... Additionally, Avertine boasted to have a true sandbox game on their hands. As of today, news came that the NDA had been dropped and preorders will occur in the next few days. The darkfall forums suddenly went from rabid forumfall to a youtube / guild video linking frenzy and the masses of forums readers cries were silenced as all watched some of the first legitimate footage of where the game is at as of Feb. 18th, 2009.
The consensus of most beta players has been fairly scalding. Combat is "like having a knife fight in Counterstrike." Crafting is way to grindy and time intensive... and with full looting, your hard made armor or weapon can be stolen from your corpse as soon as your leave the forge. Combat skills also sound to be bland and vanilla, with most not working at all. Most of all, people are very leary of the new pricing news of the game. $52.00+ American dollars is ALOT for what is not a AAA MMO. This is from an indy company, with no track record. This much for no box and a high subscription fee is well... shady. Dark and light rings a bell. There is some hope, the promises of a open world seem to be true. Most agree the world is one of the best created thus far... but mobs and NPCs seem to be very sparse. It is a hard read right now, to understand whether or not this game is for you. Some people, despite having acknowledged its many fault, say the game is still the best MMO they have ever played. But I guess you have a choice now. Either preorder and hope the game turns out better, wait a few weeks / months then try the game... or skip this entirely for more promising games like Mortal Online. I was one of those rabid forum fanboys from the DF forums, but now... I will definitely not preorder nor provide my credit card info to this company. Keep in mind how difficult it is to pursue legal action against a foreign country, it could get messy... fast. |

I played darkfall for about 5 months.
I gotta say, the game revealed to me why I am done with mmorpgs. The game is great, but the problem is there is too much downtime, and too much grind. If you want the best experience, you need to dedicate your entire life to this game, and that is not something I want to do. But i will say, I really enjoyed my clan, and my alliance. I met a lot of cool people, and i spent a lot of time just talking to them in vent, while doing boring shit like farming mobs or patroling around yssam looking for pvp. some sieges were epic. some pvp was a thrill. but in the end, games like dota are much more convenient, with none of the work and all of the action. gg darkfall. I won't forget you or my clanmates i left behind. |
