winzip vs winrar - Game|Gravity

Which do you use? To me they seem very similar. But people never seem to be able to open my winrar files when I send them.

Winrar is better, less obtrusive. Is cincorporated into the shell better. Cross compatible cheaper and quicker. From memory winrar has better compression.

In the day's of floppy disks winrar had a succsesfull segmenting compression system like the old ARJ setup. Winzip had the feature I believe but failed dismally.

I don't know the differance in today's environment but since I havn't had to use winzip in over 8 years (Winrar opens zips, zips do not open rars.) I don't know why I should change now.

Well I a m wondering what the best format to offer our downloads to users will be. I always use .rar...but I'm thinking winzip may be more widely used.

You can zip them in winrar. But yeah the zip format is supported by windows xp and vista natively. It's realisticly the way to go.

Zip works best with Macs too, when you download a zipped file it automatically unzips it for you. Winrar isn't nearly as integrated.

I thought macintosh used .tar or .ace or something ?
